As part of the HRSA ANEW Grant (T94HP30882), awarded to Dr. Victoria Soltis-Jarrett PI/PD at UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Nursing, this project offers the Behavioral Health Integration Traineeship also know as BHI Scholars Traineeship. This Traineeship is offered to MSN students in the FNP, AGNP and PMHNP programs as additional training in how to implement a whole health approach to their patient care by integrating behavioral health (which includes substance use) into their clinical practice. A major focus of the BHI Scholars traineeship is training the primary care scholars to understand and how to work to their full scope of practice and for the PMHNP Scholars, when they should be utilized or step in. Utilizing the TANDEM 3-PC model developed by Dr. Victoria Soltis-Jarrett, the primary care BHI Scholars learn how to integrate this into their practice as primary care providers and also have the opportunity to collaborate with their PMHNP peers to learn resources they can use in primary care and have a connection to someone they could turn to when their patient needs additional support and vice versa for the PMHNPs.

As an employer, what does it mean to hire someone from the BHI Traineeship?

As an employer of a former BHI Scholar, it means that you are receiving a highly trained provider, who has additional training in how to provide a whole health approach to their patients to include not only the physical health but behavioral health in their clinical practice. These individuals will know how to screen for various behavioral health issues and will have resources available to assist their patients with any issues that may arise. They will take a comprehensive approach to the clinical plans of their patients, which adds immense value to your organization and to the patients you care for.
